Bottle gourd is known for its weight loss properties. Baba ram dev suggests that if you drink bottle gourd juice empty stomach every morning till 30 days you will loss lot of weight. I haven't tried it personally so I can not comment on this. All I know is eating bottle gourd is good for you. Here is sabji recipe which you can enjoy with roti or rice.
Serves 2
Ingredients:
Bottle gourd:1 cups
Green peas: 1/2 cup
Curry leaves:6-8
Tomato: 1 small or 1/2 medium
Red chili powder: 2 tea spoon
Turmeric powder: 1 tea spoon
Cumin and coriander powder: 2-3 tea spoon
Salt to taste
Sugar: pinch
Mustard seeds: 1 tea spoon
Oil: 1 tea spoon
Asafoetida: pinch
Coriander : for garnish, handful fine chopped.
Preparation:
Peel and wash bottle gourd.
Cut them into small cubes. Wash tomato and cut it into small.
Heat the pan, add oil, once hot add mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Add asafoetida and curry leaves.
Add bottle gourd and mix well. Let it cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add green peas and let it cook for another 2 minutes.
[Note: Add pinch of soda bicarbonate to preserve green color of sabji. I couldn't be bothered]
Add all spices along with salt. Mix well.
Add little water and let it cook on low heat.
After 3-4 minutes add tomato and stir well. Add pinch of sugar and mix well.
Garnish with coriander and mix well. Remove from heat and serve hot.
Goes well with Gujarati dal, roti or rice.
